Details of Ethernet SmoothStepper

The Ethernet SmoothStepper is a Ethernet based Motion Controller, it is the successor to the USB version. It provides three parallel ports of I/O with a simple Ethernet cable connection. Outputs Step/Direction signals to drive compatible stepper and servo drives.

The pulse stream provided is both smoother and faster than is possible via the parallel port. Many times owners discover than the SmoothStepper will allow there machine to operate faster and smoother than ever before. We recommend the SmoothStepper over using the parallel port.

NOTE: The SmoothStepper does not come with cables. This allows you to pick the cables needed for your application. You will need an Ethernet cable and either the LPH26 to DB25 for most applications or a LPH26 to LPH 26 cable for some breakout boards. You can select the cables you need from the option list above.

You will need a 5V power supply for your Ethernet SmoothStepper. We recommend this MeanWell power supply. It is the same one we use in our SmoothStepper enclosures.

Ethernet Smooth Stepper
I highly recommend this Smooth Steeper.  I run a Taig CNC mill with a Gecko 540 and Mach3.  I originally had this machine set up using the computer parallel port.  I noticed I was having problems with missteps.  Some where very slight, some were very noticeable, as high as .040 to .050 in.  Installed the Smooth Stepper, problem solved. Additionally the stepper motors seem to run smoother and quieter as well.  Makes for a sweet little mill.

My thanks to Jeff for helping me work thru the diagnosis and install.
