A collet is used to hold small diameter workpieces and small diameter milling cutters. These collets fit the Taig 3/4-16 (lathe) spindle. Collets normally accept material that is .001 inches over the collet size and .004 inches under the collet size. Bar stock is usually within this tolerance.
The advantages of collets are material can be loaded quickly, collets are very accurate and maximum spindle speeds can be used.
Note: (A collet turning at 5000 rpm is a lot safer than a chuck at 5000 rpm
Collets are available in the following sizes: 1/8" (1041A), 5/32" (1041B), 3/16"(1041C), 7/32" (1041D), 1/4" (1041E), 9/32" (1041F), 5/16" (1041G) as well as in a set that includes one of each collet, one blank collet (1043) and a collet closing nut (1042).
