Alps Printer-Plotter Mechanism Y-Axis (paper feed) Gears (Set of 2)

Overview

In the 1980s the Alps 4-pen printer/plotter mechanism was used by almost every home computer manufacturer for low cost printer/plotters, as well as for portable computer printers and for  a number of pieces of medical equipment. While they were not fast, they were compact, and did allow for 4 color printing/plotting at an affordable price.

Over the years they all developed some problems, the second most common problem is a cracked hub on the Y-Axis (paper feed) anti-backlash gear set. Given the complexity of the gear set design it was not possible to have them machined like we did for the pinion gears. A lot of effort was put into creating a new set of gears that could be successfully 3D-printed. Weak areas of the original gears were beefed up and finding just the right resin that could reproduce the 0.25m gears was tricky.

We have tested these gears for two years now with great success. The gears are sold in a set of 2, which is enough for 2 printer/plotter mechanisms. Installation is a bit tricky the first time you try it but not overly complicated. We include two gear sets just in case your first attempt is not successful.
